I love Healy's for what it is, and what it can be....a family-friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant where you can always catch your favorite games, and get a good meal for a great price. For some reason, our toddler is the best behaved at Healy's compared to other restaurants. Maybe it's the friendly servers who make our son smile, or the open and well-lit space with a lot of visual distractions for an antsy toddler. But we've come here often during the day on weekends for Michigan games or March Madness. With all the tv screens, they'll always have your favorite game on. We usually get a huge mound of hot or bbq wings (really reasonably priced), and their sampler platter is awesome when we're in the mood for greasy goodness. Their kids' menu is basically adult-sized portions for about $3 or $4 bucks, can't beat it. If only they had a baby changing station in the bathroom, it would be perfect. Alas.....

DEGRADED AND INSULTED ME IN FRONT OF OTHER GUESTS. HORRIBLE ESTABLISHMENT. This is the worst place on Madison. Almost always completely dead. Creepy men and fat bartenders.. I've never in my life been so disrespected. Even the owner said rude comments to me and a friend. I was so embarrassed and upset, I genuinely couldn't believe what was being said to me. There were horrible people and all around bad customer service. They were rude and obnoxious. Treated my friend and I like degenerates. I have no idea how or why that happened but wanted to share my story with others. Be prepared to deal with barbaric and insensitive jerks who will make you feel belittled. Treated women poorly and had no decency. I have NEVER been so poorly treated. I don't normally leave reviews about a place but thought it was important to share.

BEWARE! This place canceled my event 23 days before the event. I paid a deposit to the owner of Healey's Westside to rent the space next door at Cocina De Los Lobos. Everything was discussed regarding the details of the event. Almost a month into the promotion of the event and selling tickets the owner calls and cancels the event. No compensation for expenses. Owner claims we were sub-leasing to a third party when that was not the case. The idiot could not understand my name and my company name are the same people, not a third party. He also claimed we were giving away free liquor which would jepordize his license, but the free liquor was drinks we were buying from him for our guest. He was totally narrow minded and refused to discuss the descepency and left me out in the cold scrambling for another location.

Awesome selection of beers, staff is always friendly! Food is nothing to drool over although, the Reuben sandwich is pretty darn delicious!!

Went for their Halloween party with a group of friends. The place was empty and the staff was rude. The bartenders were paying more attention to what was on television than to their customers waiting at the bar. Ordered a round of Fireball shots for the table and they were $5/shot! This is not a specialty shot, there is no effort that goes into pouring this alcohol yet their price was exponentially high compared to the $5.50 Tanqueray and Tonic I later ordered. Not sure why the staff was so unhappy but needless to say it was not the best experience and was pretty costly.

Open late. A great variety of beer. Spacious, plenty of tables as well as bar space. I enjoy the convertible windows on a warm nice. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. TVs, darts and a jukebox....Perfect for a night cap, after dinner drink, or if you just want to have a drink and watch the game.

This place is so much fun! It has a fun open feel that is extra fun filled with crazy sports fans. The staff is always nice, the drinks are always good - as is the food. Once I came and ordered a burger with bleu cheese and was entirely surprised to find the burger on a pretzel bun! YUMMO! Thanks Healy's! You guys are great : ) Tip: During the summertime they open up their huge windows and it feels like the bar is out-doors : )

This place has Woodchuck Cider on TAP!!! Enough said. I don't care for their nasty bar food. Their customer service is dry and tasteless. The atmosphere is good. They serve me my favorite beverage in a cold glass....this is all that I can ask for!

Huge bar, good space filled right. Ave customer age was probably early 20's.

I think the thing I found most amazing on my recent tour of Madison Street was the size of some of these places. Healy's Westside is one of those places with a center entrance and a giant bar on one side and a seating area on the other. While they call it an "Irish Sports Bar", the Sports bar part comes through stronger than the Irish part. They have a wide range of beers on tap and they even have Schlitz, a perennial favorite. Their menu looked good with a wide variety of foods from typical bar appetizers to sandwiches, burgers and even Irish entrees like lamb or beef stew or fish and chips. I need to go back and check the food out. Service was friendly and quick and the beers were properly poured. They also have a couple of my favorite bar games like darts (hmm . . .maybe we should have played a few games here before we had a bunch of drinks!) And the wrap around windows with its corner location, gave us a lovely vista on a recent snowy night. Grab a seat at the bar, have a pint or two and put your cares away if only for a few minutes. Then step outside back to the real world and find another bar to check out on this stretch of Madison Street.

Quick take: We had a large party here recently and they were not very accommodating of our needs. Furthermore, it was not very busy but the service staff would disappear from time to time. Most everyone in the party consented that the food was average at best (limited vegetarian options, but about average for a bar though). Shots tasted more watered down than usual. With so many bars on Madison, this place just isn't worth the headache. Definitely pass if you want to have a party here.

Great Bar, and decent crowd for a thursday night. Plenty of room, so you don't feel like your on top of other people. Good beer/wine selection. They also make some great cocktails. 3 dart boards right in back (fun). Highly recommend it.

I've been to Healy's on weekdays and weekends, as of yet I have never seen this place crowded or filled to a 50 % capacity. It's an Irish sports bar (they say) with alot of the sports theme and welcoming "cheers" like atmosphere. If they'd crank the volume dial way up and get a dance area going in the front they might attract a bigger crowd. When its warmer they open up the front windows and it gives passers-by a vibe of the interior. There is a ton of seating, at max capacity I think they could have over 100 people seated. They've got a long bar the length of the room which is usually manned by only one bartender. So even on a semi-dead Saturday night, (which I've seen a few of) the bartender isn't used to picking up the pace with getting drink orders filled which leaves you waiting a few minutes. Healy's also offers dining, electronic darts, a few games like Golden Tee and an Internet jukebox. Typically the crowd is White and occasionally I've gotten the "Whoa where did they come from look", usually its friendly though. Interesting people watching. On weekends you can find an interesting mixture of people, mostly younger. Weekdays some cougars and folk in their later 30's +. I like that prices haven't been affected much today versus a year ago. Also mixed drinks and shots are affordable, not Chicago downtown pricing. i.e. Shot of Tequila Rose $3.50, $4. for a tall Makers and coke. Mixed drinks usually have a heavy pour, no matter which bartender it is. Next door is a Mexican restaurant which both share a main entrance. In this bar there are two entry doors which take you between both places, I wonder if you can order off the Mexican menu?

As others have noted the layout is a bit weird but if you have a seat at the bar with three or less you are OK. More than that and get a table. Food was just OK. Even a burger had strange bacon (go ahead and charge more since those prices are up but don't make me eat whatever that was) and the olives were too big. Chopped should mean small not chunks. Chips were right out of a Jay's or Lay's bag.2.5

Surprisingly solid food, some of the Irish fare is excellent. Beer is affordable. The place is spacious but usually desolate. The dart machines are in a great setup, the only problem is they never work.

    (3)
  • Elaine M.

I don't really think that you come to Healy's for the food. This is a pub for sure! The main attraction is the alcohol. They have a huge selection and it's hard to make a choice. We loved all the Irish beers to choose from that were on tap - Guinness, Smithwick's and Harp to name a few. Went early one weekend evening, definitely an off hour so it's hard to talk about the noise level or what the service would be like during a peak time. Early on a Saturday it was pretty quiet and the service was attentive.

My whole family came here for a drink to kill some time before dinner. My dad and brother appreciated all the tvs, especially those with hockey on, as well as the selection of Irish beers on tap (my parents just came back from a trip to Ireland). Love that they also had cider on tap, although I ended up with the biggest gin and tonic in history. Friendly waitstaff and a cool place to relax and catch up with friends. Or play a board game! They have a strangely large library of games available in the bar.

My husband and I used to frequent this bar back when we would drink loads of cheap beer and smoke inside but hadn't been back in years. Seeing that they were appealing to the 'craft beer' crowd we gave it another shot. The bar is spacious and has so much potential, however, under utilized and pretty empty on week nights. The bar still smells faintly of stale smoke. The specials written in chalk haven't changed in 10 years. It's like a relic frozen in time. The printed tap list hadn't been updated in months. My husband felt that the beer tasted a little off from dirty tap lines and the hoppy beer was not as fresh as could be. For old time sake we tried to play the electronic game machine. It was broken.

Great atmosphere. Plenty of beers to choose from, best wings in town. Bartenders on Friday night were friendly , fast and funny. Best bar on Madison st.

Don't trust anything said by this bitter and rude female. If her and her friend had had the common courtesy to leave the establishment in a timely manner after they had been asked politely numerous times then the staff wouldn't have had to lose their patience and become more insistent that she get up and get the hell out because it's the law that you are gone before 3am, not whenever you feel like getting out.. Anyone who has ever bartended a single night shift on a weekend knows what Im talking about. Please trust the 99% of the rest of the reviews and not this poor attempt at social media revenge..

*Warning: This review is primarily based off of having a few drinks and maybe an appetizer. I do not eat their food here regularly. I only go to Healys for drinks and finger foods* Okay-I have this weird thing about small bars. I feel like everyone is way too close to me and it gets really super loud in tight places. The amazing thing about Healys is that I never feel as if I'm suffocating. It's a HUGE place. Plenty of tables and bar space. On slow days, you can be completely secluded and have a great conversation over drinks with someone and you won't have to raise your voice. I really enjoy Healys for a quick drink with some friends or a more mellow night with the boyfriend. The service is pretty good! The servers and bartenders are always friendly. They're usually pretty fast and efficient. I haven't been to Healys when it's super crowded, so I'm not sure how they function under pressure. Oh, the best part is, they aren't stingy on alcohol with mixed drinks. Love that. Overall, great experiences at Healys.

This is really one of the top bars in downtown Forest Park. I have been here several times and I am always happy with my experience. Its never too crowded, the staff is always really cool, and the location is great. Free Wifi

Great place for sports and hamburgers, a little hard to find parking but it's worth it. I always have their New Mexico burger which comes with avocado and pico De gallo, yummy!

They got good eats. Nice big sizes for dat Midwestern belly youse gotta fill. Nice by da kids too. Nice portions rather large, makes a nice sack lunch for the next days. Youse can put it by da sack and go by the office. They don't skip on the condiments neiders. It's got a nice ambiance, nice cold beers, friendly staff, and tasty tid bits.

Love how spacious this bar is! They have a large-windowed store front with panels that open for fresh air when it's warm. Good beer prices/specials going on as well. We went here during the St. Pats parade and were still able to get a drink quickly. I want to come back when I can actually get a spot to sit and stay a while! I will be back soon.

I have become a fan of Healy's Westside. It's bright, full of pretty wood, not usually so overcrowded that you want to punch people in the face, and the bathrooms are well maintained (hey, I want a nice clean toilet seat). The beer selection is far better than another big bar on he strip I shall not name here. The atmosphere is welcoming, there's a decent amount of places to sit, and during the St. Patrick parade on Madison is has nice big windows for people watching. I would recommend checking this place out. Oh, and tip your bartenders. They are pretty rad.

    (4)
  • David B.

Been hitting Healy's since they were located closer to Harlem. After all these years it's still a pretty decent place to grab a brew and some apps. The beer selection has gotten much better and features a lot more choices. Food isn't bad either, mostly pub fare but it's pretty good. Gets empty on the weeknights but weekends and Bears games it's a much livelier crowd. Great place to go with a group of people but if you're going as a couple you may be disappointed. Also parking as usual on the strip can be a nightmare.

The bar is a decent size and is located right in the heart of the bar district in Forest Park. The drinks are good here, and reasonably priced. We plan to return for the Friday night fish fry soon, so we can see what the food is like here as well.

  • John G.

I love this place lots of TVs a huge bar area and not a lot of kids. If you want something laid back and an older crowd this is your spot a lot of regulars here. All the bartenders are great as well.

    (4)
  • Alexa E.

Huge bar, great beer selection, decent crowd, BUT the bartender I had didn't know sh*t about beer. For a place with such a nice selection of brewskis I would think the bartenders know what the f an IPA is, or at least be able to comment on different brews. Regardless, great place and I'd definitely go back!

The food is not good. The service is poor and some staff is actually very rude. I have not ever had a good time he

    (1)
  • ALFREDO M.

They make a decent tuna-melt sandwich and it's ok to bring your kids here. They also have a respectable selection of beers on tap. Two things to note: * Does the bags video game really cost $32? That can't be right. * On their game shelf they have Twister. Twister?!

  • Al D.

Healey's is great and not overly-pretensious with a wide-open layout, great for getting together here with a group. When I went out for my last birthday, I had everyone meet here since the location can't be beat: easy parking, right off 290, and walking distance to the Blue and Green lines. The staff was great, no problems with the food, and everyone liked Healey's bcause its spacious and dosen't appear to be crammed with people even on a crowded Saturday night. The bartenders are fast, too, and there's a decent selection of beer on tap.

  • Meg X.

Nice enough to take your mom for dinner, cheap enough to get trashed when she leaves. The acoustics are absolutely bizarre but the cheese balls are delicious. Staff are hit and miss on attentiveness but are generally friendly and will put up with your friends. The bar looks inviting but once you sit down you realize how awkward it is to talk to the people around you. Sit at a table for groups of 3 or more; sit by the windows for excellent people watching. Mostly OK food. Don't order the chicken Caesar wrap if you're a fan of chicken Caesar wraps; you will experience level 2 chicken Caesar letdown. Since Horan's closed down it's usually easier to park a block or two east of the place.

  • Katy W.

I had one of the tastiest seasonal beers ever here, bills brewery pumpkin ale. They have plenty of seating by the windows and I really liked our server, an irish woman who was very personable. Many dishes were had= a special chili dish over noodles, reuben, spicy fries, tuna melt, all really good. I had to bring half of my reuben home for later. Their spicy fries are exceptional, like nothing I have never had before. The bar is huge with dart boards and a huge variety of beers. I'll definitely be back.

Great open space with lots of windows. I like the feel of the place. Long history in forest park to, so even though it's newer space you feel nostalgic. You have to wonder why isn't this place more crowded. One BIG problem, the place reeks of sewer gas. WTF, really you went cheap on the plumbing.... Last three times I was there it stunk like rotten eggs, it blows my mind that anyone was even in there...last time I went there was just to see if it smelled because it seemed to me this was an obvious problem with an easy fix, guess what it still did. 1 beer and out. I am posting this as PSA to the owners because you must not visit your bar. Fix your plumbing, line the pipes, get a leak sensor, do something. Post a sign letting us know it's new and improved and I will be back, otherwise I will stick to the bars with normal expected gross bar smells. Thanks for your consideration.

  • Christina R.

It lost a lot of it's Irish pub look when it moved to the new locale, but don't be fooled, it's still an Irish pub. And any place with cider on tap is my friend! The food is actually really good too. I like the soups and Sunday brunch. I believe the kitchen closes at 10pm. It's a large space, so it can get loud. There's a stage in front and an occasional live band. The crowd is super friendly, usually more late 20s-30s age mix, but I think everyone feels welcome here.

Healy's is a really great place to hang out in Forest Park. Its spacious so you can always find a seat, friendly staff, good food and a pretty nice selection of beer! Love it!!

Very spacious bar with darts and other games. Very nice beer selection as well. Have been in the Oak Park/Forest Park area since October and is one of my favorite bars so far. The corned beef sandwich and fries were great too! Will definitely come back here.

    (4)
  • Emily Y.

Healy's is ok. I have sentimental reasons for liking this bar, but the beer selection is enough to give it the three stars. It's generally less crowded and has a more laid back clientele than most bars on this strip. Food is pretty mediocre, I wouldn't go for dinner.

    (3)
  • Daina T.

Healy's Westside is my favourite place on Madison St. to meet up with friends for a few rounds of cocktails/beers. The location is ideal with plenty of space around for parking, the staff has always been friendly and accommodating when we come for a birthday, and the kitchen is open late enough for those nighttime cravings. The only reason it's not getting more stars is that the food takes abnormally long from order to receiving it and the bartenders need a brush up on standard/classic cocktails. 45 minutes for Jalapeno Poppers with an additional 30 minutes for a cold Turkey Reuben is unacceptable -- especially when its lunchtime and there are less than 5 customers in the entire place. And not being able to make a Dirty Martini or a Manhattan is absurd... but the Long Islands are the best on the strip.

If I had to pick one word to describe Healy's, it would be "reliable." If you've never visited the bars on Madison St in Forest Park, just know that the atmosphere at most do a complete 180 in the matter of an hour. With lots of bars that claim to be Irish (although the only Irish thing I can find about most is the name), you can find yourself in a completely empty dive bar and an hour later it's backed and full of drunk douchy men and whoo girls (thank you himym!) trying to dance and swearing obscenities at each other. It's not so much that I think that either extreme is good or bad (okay, i do think the later is bad, but to each his own....), but when I pick a bar to go to, it's partially based on what mood I'm in and if I'm in the mood for a dive bar, I don't want to wade through a frat party. I don't blame the bars for this - Madison St just really lends itself to bar hopping. Not that Healy's doesn't get busy, but somehow it seems to stay consistently in the middle, so the Healy's I walk into during happy hour is the same Healy's that I walk out of at the end of the night. Food is above average bar food and they've got a decent beer selection for a sports bar. Service can be a bit slow and spotty, but as long as you're not in a hurry, it's not too bad.

    (3)
  • Jeanette N.

First of all, the food here is vile. Pure nastiness on a plate. Sweet lord, I don't know whether the old packaged ham with completely tasteless cheese on cheap bread was worse, or maybe the "spicy fries", that were actually their regular fries with a pile of some bottled spice mix dumped on top. Ewwwwwwww. With that said, it's a typical Forest Park Madison St. bar, with the benefit of more space and nice big windows. It's a nice place for some beer; either an early few or a late few. Just eat before you go.....

I chose Healy's for my St. Patrick's Day this year because it was established by an Irish immigrant so I wanted to try to go to a place with a more authentic vibe. I'm not sure how authentic it was, but it is a really nice, spacious place. I enjoyed the bagpipe group that happened to wander in off the street and make our St. Patty's special! I ordered a veggie burger and it was OK. I can't say it was totally delicious, but overall the menu was a bit of a step up from typical bar food. The menu is pretty extensive and I was grateful there even was a vegetarian option. Our waitress was not too friendly, especially given the festive day. I could understand if the place was full of drunken, annoying young people -but the crowd was pretty diverse! There were after work people, a few younger folks -just nice regular people getting together to have a drink and be merry. Later in the night, she warmed up a little bit and explained that she came into work and "had to start working right away" which kind of threw off her night. I was a little perplexed by this explanation; isn't anyone supposed to jump right in and get to work when you get to your place of employment? Her vibe kinda threw off the night a bit because I felt like when we asked for something (mustard....another drink) it seemed to take some time for her to get and she didn't seem too happy about it. It's a shame because other than that, it's a nice place. I'm thinking the owner needs to read some of these reviews because it seems like service is a little hit or miss.

Back when they moved the bar from it's location next to the funeral home to a location further West down Madison Street, I thought it would spell the end for this Forest Park favorite. However, the owners made all the right moves. They improved what needed to be improved, the bar configuration, televisions, bathrooms, etc. At the same time, they retained all the good things such as the Irish menu. The Healy's relocation was one of the first acts of the overall improvement of Madison Street. The Mexican joint next door, who's name escapes me at the moment, is also quite good, or at least it was in 2004, the last time I lived in Forest Park.

Great place to hang out. I go here often with some friends after work. I love how huge the place is. There are also families there for dinner early in the evening. The food is actually not bad for bar food! I've only had the appetizers. Chilli cheese fries are great, so is the fried cheese. Yum!

My wife and I have visited HWS at least a dozen times since moving into the neighborhood last summer. I has been great every time. Most of the portions will accommodate 2 people so we freequently share. It's a great way to save money. Our favorite is the bbq pulled pork sandwich.

  • Wayne C.

I've eaten there and drank there. Food - gross. My grandma, my mom and I were literally 3 of 6 customers one day. It took over an hour to get our food. And they were grilled cheeses. Sick. And I guess for a Saturday night in Forest Park, it's fine. It's cheap! Drinks were $4 and shots were $2! What?! It's really big and they were understaffed so our service was crap. But they do have a cheap jukebox full of slutty hits. Eh.

I just like love this place. Cold beer and good bar food and Irish pub fare! The Reuben was excellent and the spicy fries were just as advertised. Healy's continues to be my favorite spot on the Madison Ave strip.

  • Yvonne O.

I could hold a grudge against Healey's for being ejected when I was driving on a ticket (they couldn't read the birthdate and despite being about 24, had to kick me out - even though I was only drinking soda as the designated driver!) when they were at their old location, but I can't fault a business for not wanting to take chances! I like this location much more. There is more space and better seating. The food is pretty average, but it is the staff and customers who make the place a destination - people are super friendly and you really feel at home. I also like that tons of people have parties here, but it doesn't shut the whole place down - you get to feel like you are part of the party while you eat and drink! Slainte!

I dig this place. despite other yelpers reviews, the service is always outstanding, many many televisions with about every sporting event possible playing (or will turn on upon request). food is great, lots of room, board games, a community library (give take, honor system, vn [very nice]). all around, i would say its the most enjoyable bar on madison st.

YUM-A-LICIOUS!!! This place has the best food! I had one of their wraps, omg, I'm hooked for life! I didn't dine-in, but service was very nice and speedy. Great price for yumminess!!! And their fries are unlike anything I've had-very tasty!

Good place in the heart of Forest park. Plenty of room to manuever in the place and some good bar food. It is a good place to watch a hawks game and hang out with a group watching the madison street traffic and wishing you had seats a few miles east at the arena.

Consistently my favorite bar to drink at on the strip. 3 dart boards in back and great bartenders. Food is not great although recently they have tried to improve on that by adding a few more selections. Appetizers are all solid if you are looking for a snack.

Went here with 2 other people for St. Pattys yesterday. It wasn't too crowded when we 1st arrived but as the night progressed, it got really busy. I ordered an italian beef with spicy fries and it was pretty good. My 2 other girls liked their food 2, but it was the service that we had issues with. Our watress was not so friendly and she really pissed me off when she reached over my plate of food to give my friend her food. Um hello!? Rude! As a waitress aren't u taught 2 go around people 2 give them their food & not reach over other people's food? Then, there was a group of people sittin at a table next 2 us that were talkin so loud that they were practically SCREAMIN at each other! It was sooooo ridiculous! Then 1 of the guys at that table was coughin up a lung as we were eating our meal! It was pretty gross cuz he kept coughin so loudly that I almost suggested he go tot he bathroom with that mess! Nobody at his table even said anythin 2 him or asked if he was ok. WTH!? Anyway, my friends & I enjoyed ourselves but I don't think this will be a place I'd go back to. It was a nice try 2 celebrate the holiday, but not 2 just hang out.

Good, comfortable bar-food in an inviting, inclusive atmosphere. Seems like a really good mix of young people, working adults and (early in the evening) families. Love the Fish n Chips and they have a great selection of micro-brews. This is definitely the place to stop on Madison street if you're a micro-brew fan. Plenty of room to move around you gotta love the big open windows on a sunny day. One of Madison Street's best.

Been coming to Healy's ever since they were located down just down the block closer to Harlem Ave. The new place is much more open and airy and very comfortable in the summer especially when all the windows are open. Food is always good, great beer selection and the prices are very reasonable. Great place to just hang out and watch a ballgame with friends.

Clean and Boring the kind of place you'd find in any suburban downtown these days. Not as seedy as your typical Madison St bar but prices are also steeper than most Forest Park places. On the plus side they do have Bags the video game

One of my favorite bars on the "Madison Strip." Chilled out and lots of room.

For Forest Park, Healy's is the best place for a more laid-back evening. It's big & open and brighter than your average bar. It's a great place for the non-smoker or a large crowd, as there is plenty of seating & tables. In the back there are dart boards & your typical video games. A good jukebox! The food is really good, and if nothing else, there's a Jimmy John's connected! It's not a really "happening" place, although it can get crowded at times. Earlier in the evening it's more of a "happy hour" crowd, after 10pm turns more into younger crowd, or empties out.
